This Philz holds a special place in my heart. This was the first location I visited and the first time I tasted their famed Mint Mojito! There's plenty of seating and the art on the walls makes it very inviting and gives it that distinct "Mission vibe" iykyk. The baristas are always friendly and ask how you like your coffee. Sweet and creamy all the way! With the looming closure of this location, I had to come back for another one of their delicious coffees. This time I got the iced Gingersnap. It's the perfect afternoon treat. Cookies and coffee minus the extra calories! The spices were just right and enhanced the coffee perfectly. This Philz never disappoints! I'll miss this place...
Im a huge coffee fan and love that philz has so much variety! I decided to stop by this location before it closed at the end of the month, and fell in love with the art decor. I got the tesora and it was slightly watery for my liking but still a refreshing drink!
It's so sad this location - the original, first ever Philz - is closing down in 2 months. Unlike the newer locations around SF and beyond, this spot has a unique retro vibe filled with tons of history. Besides a slight shift in furniture arrangements and the addition of new menu items over the years, this location in the heart of the Mission has remained true to its roots as a local coffee shop with a strong sense of community. If you're in the area, definitely try to swing by one last time before Oct 16.
Tried the Cinammon Toast Crunch coffee at this location and have to say it's delicious! Although drinks here take a while to make/receive, this place is the epitome of a coffee shop for anyone looking to work or read here -- fun leather couches, mismatched wooden tables, and plenty of outlets. Good music, good weather, and a bathroom make it an ideal place to sit for a while.
The only other Philz location in San Francisco that I'd ever been to is the one on Berry Street, a stone's throw from the ballpark. Given that this Philz is the original location and is sadly slated to close in October, I had to pay a visit. You'll notice upon entering that it's very big and roomy compared to most other Philz locations. Also, at this location, you'll order and pay first and then the barista will make your coffee and call your name when it's ready. Other Philz locations are the opposite -- you order with the barista first and then pay at the end. Just like at all other Philz I patronize, I ordered a small Philtered Soul (light, light). It was ready in about 10 minutes. We sat on one of their couches and watched people come and go. I think the two main things that set this location apart from other Philz locations is that it's, as aforementioned, fairly big and roomy, and there seems to be a better ambiance here and a much more charming, homey atmosphere and vibe. It's just sad that they've lost their lease and will have to close. I would've hoped that the landlord would've taken into consideration the fact that this is the original location with so much history behind it and maybe worked out a deal, but I guess they had other ideas. Pity. 4 stars
